Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Program

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Program began at London Gatwick Airport in 2016 and has since expanded across airports in the UK, as well as supermarkets, railway stations, museums and sports venues. A few airports in the U.S. have also started recognizing the program. President Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT) is proud to join this effort to make travel easier and more comfortable for passengers with hidden disabilities.

How does the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Program work?

Passengers may choose to wear a sunflower lanyard to discreetly signal to airport staff that they have a hidden disability. Participation is entirely voluntary and passengers are not required to disclose details about their disability. However, they may choose to include a contact name and phone number on the accompanying card in case they become separated from their travel party.

DJT staff are trained to recognize the sunflower lanyard and to respond with understanding and support when additional assistance is needed.

Passengers may request a sunflower lanyard by emailing publicrelations@pbc.gov and including their full mailing address, a phone number, airline and flight information, and travel date. Sunflower lanyards are distributed only to passengers traveling through the airport. All requests are reviewed and if approved, a lanyard will be mailed to the passenger.

Important:
Wearing a sunflower lanyard does not guarantee expedited security or preferential treatment. Passengers still need to arrange special assistance through their airline or TSA Cares.

Lanyards will be mailed to the requester via U.S. Mail. Please allow at least 14 business days for processing. Delivery may take longer, so plan to request ahead of your travel date. Lanyards are only available via standard mail. Expedited shipping is not offered. DJT is not responsible for delays in the postal service.
